There seems to be a supplement for everything and anything these days, which I can’t say I’m a fan of but when you need to supplement something to keep your body healthy and in balance, I’m all for that.
For me, supplementing fibre is huge. Since I’m on a gluten free diet, fibre tends to be low in gf breads, pastas, etc. and I can’t just top my oatmeal with bran buds or pick up a bran muffin at Starbucks. Finding high-fibre gluten-free alternatives isn’t always easy and a high-fibre diet is super important for optimal health. Fibre helps keeps our bowel movements normal, regulates digestion, controls blood sugars and helps to lower cholesterol.
I know I could easily up my fibre intake with a bunch of beans, cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) and nuts…but a) I don’t like nuts, b) beans, beans…the magical fruit…(catch by drift?), and c) eating all of those foods on a daily basis is a lot of work!
I have to make an effort to ensure I’m incorporating enough fibre into my diet on a daily basis because having a chronic digestive issue means I need to make sure my gut is working its best every day. I’ve done the whole fibre powder in water, but it’s not quick and easy…especially when I’m running out the door in the morning.
One of my favourite ways to supplement fibre (which is super easy) is by taking Nature’s Bounty Fiber Adult Gummies. Key word = gummies…they literally taste like candy, yet they’re full of inulin fibre and free of added sugars. Inulin fibre is the same type of fibre found in bananas, wheat, asparagus and artichokes, and it’s the type that helps promote the growth of healthy bacteria to keep our digestion moving.
I take one gummy with breakfast (or keep a couple in my purse if I forget to take one in the morning) and then make sure to add other sources of fibre to my diet throughout the day.
A few of my go-to fibre sources include:
- Chia seeds in smoothies and in water
- Oatmeal and pumpkin seeds
- Adding veggies, like kale, to my smoothies
On the days that I know I haven’t had much fibre, I’m happy to know I’ve had my easy, chewy supplement. I know that I could also easily take a fibre supplement in the form of a pill or mix a powder into my water…but the child in me gets excited for a chewy treat that’s actually beneficial for my body. It’s like having a Flintstones vitamin…remember those?
These sweet, chewy, fibre filled supplements are so good…trust me, you won’t even know you’re eating something that’s good for you.
This post was created in partnership with Nature’s Bounty, simply because I love the ease of adult gummies (who doesn’t like a good-for-you candy!?). All opinions are my own!
