Feeling stress-free and balanced looks different for everyone. We all have our own wellness go-to’s, but sometimes it can be inspiring to hear what others do. I asked some Toronto bloggers what their go-to wellness hacks are; read on and perhaps try adding one or two of the below tips to your wellness regime.
I’m a huge believer in aromatherapy and COULD. NOT. LIVE. without my Saje Wellness nebulizer. I have almost the entire collection of oils, but my favourite is Stress Release – I keep it on my desk and it mists the most amazing, calming scent into the air. It keeps me focused and relaxed when I have a heavy workload (which is, like, every day).
I keep a gratitude journal. Every night I write down something that happened during the day that I am grateful for – this could be as ‘big’ as booking an amazing job or as ‘small’ as having a cup of tea that I really enjoyed that day. I find that when you focus on all the big and little things that are in your life that you have to be grateful for, it makes you feel happier and attracts more positive things into your life!
Know yourself and create a routine around that. It might seem like a very simple (and vague) tip, but it’s surprising how often we try to fit into someone else’s formula whether it’s because they’re positioned as an expert or purely out of comparison. If you’re a morning person, make sure you stick to those morning runs instead of putting it off to the afternoon when you know you won’t do it. And if you don’t have celiac, eat those healthy carbs! But most importantly, surround yourself with people who support your wellness journey. It’s hard enough doing it on your own.
For me, there’s nothing more overwhelming than thinking long-term when trying to envision my new healthy lifestyle – I’ll just inevitably start to focus on all of the foods and activities that I won’t be able to have or do. Instead, I just commit to taking the healthiest decisions that I can every day. For example, when waking up instead of just going straight for the computer I’ll choose to instead do a small morning workout. Same thing goes when making eating decisions: instead of choosing something unhealthy I’ll make the decision to go for a healthy alternative instead.
I make myself a green smoothie each day. It’s an easy way to pack in nutritious fruits and veggies everyday, but more importantly, I genuinely enjoy drinking them. I always have baby spinach and frozen fruit on hand, so it only takes a minute to whip one up.
My top wellness hack is my meditation practice. It is seriously so calming and grounding to take 10-15 minutes of my day to sit and be still. I have a lot going on at all times so I find this helps me find balance, create a positive mindset, and allow creativity to flow.
Collagen! I either add it to smoothies or my morning coffee, I can’t go without it. Not only does it help your hair, skin and nails, it is also amazing for healing the gut, building healthy cartilage and improving bone strength. Plus, it helps you sleep. There’s not much it doesn’t do!
And one of my go-to wellness hacks is keeping water beside me all day long. At my desk I have a big water bottle that I’ll fill up at least three times a day. I find that if the water is in front of me, it’s so much easier to remember to drink it. Staying super hydrated is one of the key things that makes me feel my best. My eyes don’t feel as dry, my skin feels softer and I just feel more energized!
