About a year ago I was looking around for DIY remedies that would help brighten my skin and curb hormonal breakouts. I ended up coming across turmeric tea. I had heard about it before, but the idea of this bright yellow drink made with a common herb found in curries didn’t seem very appealing to me.
Well…never judge a book by it’s cover. Since giving it a try I’ve been hooked. It’s such a soothing drink and warms up my whole body…it’s like a hug in a cup. I started drinking it every morning before breakfast and after a couple weeks I definitely noticed a difference in my skin – along with my digestion. I also find that it gives me a boost of energy, not in a caffeine-type way but it just makes me feel clear minded and fresh. I love it!
Turmeric has many health benefits; it’s an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, a natural pain killer, can help improve mood and it has skin healing properties. It’s pretty wonderful. It’s also very easy to whip up.
Give it a try…you might not be a fan of the earthy taste at first, but I bet after a couple of cups you will be hooked. If you find it’s not sweet enough or you want more lemon, play with the combinations to find what’s right for you. I’ve also read that adding black pepper to the drink helps your body better absorb the health benefits of the turmeric…but I haven’t tried that out yet.
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1/4 fresh squeezed lemon
- 1.5 cups hot water
I like to put all the ingredients into the bottom of the mug first and then pour the boiled water on top. Mix it well to try to dissolve as much of the turmeric. A find that some of the turmeric will settle at the bottom, just make sure you have a spoon handy to stir it up every once and a while.
Have you had turmeric tea? What’s your favourite way of drinking it?
