Tomorrow is February 23rd…AKA my birthday! It’s the only time I actually LOVE the spotlight. Why not right? It’s a day for me…and I guess the 360 K other birthdays in the world (which is a stat). I treat it like my own little ‘New Year’s’ party. It’s a time to start fresh, with a new age and a new outlook for the year. Instead of January 1st, I like to start my new goals for the year on February 23rd.
A new age…a fresh start!
The past year was an amazing one. A few of the highlights included:
- Starting the year off with a mini yoga retreat
- Hosting a bridal shower for my best friend & partaking in their pre-wedding festivities
- Giving my first BIG speech in front of hundreds at McMaster University as the patient representative for the Canadian Institute of Health Research’s big announcement
- Joining Toastmasters
- Vacationing in FLA
- Visiting NYC
- Moving into our new home
- Various wedding activities, such as the menu tasting, dress fittings, bridal showers and my bachelorette!
- OUR WEDDING! #bestdayever
- Honeymoon in Barbados
- Being in two of my best friends’ weddings
- Getting a puppy!
- Trying new things (like ballet and curling)
It was an amazing year and one that I am so thankful for. A year I will never forget.
Now it’s on to my next year and I’m so excited to see what it brings.
A few of my goals include:
I’m a morning person. I always have been. I’m usually happy and peppy when I first get out of bed and I find that I have my best focus in the morning. Lately, however, I’ve been having such a hard time getting out of our cozy bed with the nice, dark blackout blinds. Waking up later has meant going to bed later, which has created a vicious cycle of being too tired to wake up early. Well, this week my husband and I have been motivating each other to get up EARLY – aka 5:45 a.m. – to workout/do yoga and start our day off before the sun rises. So far I’m loving it and I hope to keep this up…
Use more cookbooks:
I love cooking and I love cookbooks…but I tend to usually use memory when I cook – or create recipes on the fly. I have all these delicious recipes in cookbooks that I usually just flip through…so my goal this year is to try at least one new recipe a week.
Reduce screen time:
The majority of my day is on the computer. From 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. I’m working as a Communications Manager, which involves lots of computer work and then once I get home I often will blog, scroll through IG and/or catch up on Netflix. I mean…it’s not every night that I’m glued to a screen…but I definitely need less screen time in my life… TOO many screens! I have to reduce this. I want to make more time for painting, cooking, going for walks, reading books, etc.
Try bullet journaling:
I love learning new tools for organizing my life and lately, I’ve been reading all about bullet journaling. It’s so cool. I can’t wait to try it and I hope to get a hang of it. (More on bullet journaling to come).
Do you ever make goals for a new year on your birthday? Do you like to start fresh on your birthday? Do you love or hate your birthday??
