Three more days until the BIG royal wedding!!! I couldn’t be more excited. I find the British royal family’s history so fascinating and the life they live totally intrigues me. I’m also a huge fan of Meghan Markle…so the excitement I have for this wedding is pretty high! When William and Kate got married, my family and I woke up bright and early to watch their wedding, and come Saturday morning we’ll be doing the same thing – in bathrobes, pearls and these necessary essentials…
Gluten-free lemon scones: As much as I wanted to whip up a lemon elderflower cake – which will be Meghan and Harry’s wedding cake – I thought lemon scones would be more appropriate for a 7 am breakfast (although cake for breakfast is always the best). I modified Trish Magwood’s recipe by substituting cup-for-cup gluten-free flour (I used Robin Hood Gluten-Free Flour) for regular flour.
Strawberries and cream: As tennis fans, we eat the traditional British strawberries and cream every year while we watch Wimbledon (it’s Wimbledon’s traditional treat). So I thought it would be very fitting to serve them on Saturday morning too!
Kombucha Mimosas: With wedding coverage starting at 4 am EST and the ceremony starting at 7 am EST…I thought traditional mimosas might just put me to sleep…so we’ll be sipping on kombucha mimosas instead, using Tonica Kombucha – it’s a great non-alcoholic alternative. The recipe is easy, instead of topping your OJ off with champagne, top it off with kombucha – we’ll be having Tonica’s peach flavour!
Freshly painted nails: Since we’ll be lounging for a couple hours, I thought the perfect activity to go alongside watching a royal wedding in bathrobes and sipping mimosas is painting our nails with essie’s gel couture wedding collection by Reem Acra. I got to chat with Rita Remark, Global Educator/Lead Nail Artist for essie (who also happens to have had Meghan Markle as a client in the past), to ask her thoughts on what she predicts the royal ladies will be sporting on their nails and what the 2018 wedding nail trends are:
Megan: What are your predictions for Meghan Markle’s nail colour on Saturday?
Rita: I predict she’ll wear something fresh, clean and classic. Sheer whites and neutrals have been gracing her nails since the engagement and I feel she’ll stay true to form with a colour like essie’s Allure or Limo-scene.
M: What colours do you tend to see Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle….and of course the Queen wearing on their nails?
R: All three royal women lean to classic sheers. Kate famously wore Allure on her wedding day and it’s been said the Queen, herself, has been polished with Ballet Slippers.
M: What are the current nail trends for 2018 brides?
R: This season, brides aren’t afraid of colour. I get plenty of requests for heather grays, deep reds and glossy candy pinks. It’s all about incorporating your own personality into your bridal look. Even nail art looks like glitter, appliqué’s and moon mani’s are current favourites.
M: With wedding season in full swing, what are some go-to nail colour trends for wedding guests?
R: Bold! This summer’s trend colours are orange, lilac and yellow. Wedding guests have no colour restrictions for nails, so branch out and try something fun! (Avant Garment, Lilacism, Clambake).
M: Will you be getting up bright and early to watch the royal wedding?
R: Yes, of course! I can’t wait to see what fabulous look Meghan has chosen. She has such impeccable taste. I will also be scanning the crowd for unique manicures and, of course, the fancy hats.
So, now that you’ve heard my royal wedding viewing essentials…what are yours?
