I’m all about skincare. I think I’ve mentioned it in a previous post, but those who know me know I stick to a routine when it comes to my morning and evening skincare regime. I used to be the type to cleanse, tone and moisturize, but about three years ago I introduced exfoliation into my routine. As someone with very sensitive skin, I thought exfoliation would be too harsh for me. I was wrong.
I first introduced the Philips Pure Radiance Facial Cleansing Brush to my routine. I loved it! It offered gentle exfoliation at the same time as I washed my face. I used it for a good year but then started to get lazy about ordering new replacement brushes…
I then switched to a 2-in-1 cleanser/scrub: Beauty Counter’s Nourishing Cream Exfoliator. It did the job and I loved the mild exfoliation it provided…but then I ran out of it and instead of ordering more, I ended up stumbling upon Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant. Since then, my skin has improved SO much. I was a bit hesitant using it daily – since I didn’t want to over exfoliate, but I took the risk and I don’t know what I would do without this product. I use it after I cleanse and it gives my skin a very gentle scrub, leaving my skin feeling super soft and crazy clean.
As a quick side note – this post is not promoted or sponsored in any way, I just absolutely love this product and wanted to share my experience with it.
Because I LOVE it so much, I reached out to Charmaine Cooper, Education Manager at Dermalogica, to learn more about Dermalogica’s amazing daily exfoliants and hear her take on the benefits of exfoliation:
Megan: Why is exfoliation important for healthy skin?
Chamaine: It is important to exfoliate the skin as it has numerous skin benefits. Some of the skin benefits include: smoothing, hydrating, decongesting, stimulating the repair process and cell renewal. When exfoliation is done right, it yields amazing skin health results.
Are Dermalogia’s daily exfoliants harsh for sensitive skin?
Dermalogica’s sensitive skin line is mild enough for daily use, yet are customizable to address a variety of aggressive skin concerns.
Does dermalogica’s daily exfoliant replace a cleanser?
Dermalogica daily exfoliants do not replace cleansers. However, they are perfect compliments to cleansers. For the time compressed user, Dermalogica cleansers can be combined with certain Dermalogica’s exfoliants for a “power cleanse”. This allows both dirt, debris and excess skin cells to be removed in a combined step.
What’s your favourite way to exfoliate? In the shower? Over the sink?
My favourite way to exfoliate my skin is definitely in the shower. I’m a multi-tasker when it comes to skincare. I love combining formulas, multi-masking and certainly exfoliating the skin in quick but effective ways. Depending upon the formula that I choose, in the shower, I use the time to also shave the legs or condition my hair. This is an ideal opportunity to deep cleanse (exfoliate and then mask the skin).
What if someone has sensitive skin, do you recommend exfoliating?
It is a commonly believed myth that sensitive skin cannot be exfoliated. It is true that most sensitive skin types do need to prioritize hydration and shielding of the skin. But once that is under control mild exfoliation is beneficial, if anything, needed to optimize healthy skin.
Can you use Dermalogica’s exfoliant all over the body or is it just purposed for the face?
Dermalogica exfoliants are prescribed and recommended for the face neck and chest. To effectively exfoliate the body, we recommend dry body brushing.
Now, a question for you guys: do you exfoliate? What’s your favourite exfoliator? I’d love to hear!
