Remember last week when I shared my interview with Jordyn Taylor – an ‘obliger’ personality type from The Four Tendencies? In that post I mentioned that’d I’d be highlighting a second ‘obliger’ interview – because I found the obliger tendency to be very common amongst those I asked to participate. An obliger is an excellent leader, a great team player and someone who is willing to go the extra mile. They put a high value on meeting commitments and are very successful when they have deadlines to meet. Basically, an obliger is someone you totally want on your team at work…or as a boss or manager to keep everyone going in the right direction.
Today I’m profiling obliger Lauren Ott, who leads Canadian business development for a non-profit.
Lauren, what three words best describe you?
Caring, (struggling to answer this, as I don’t want to provide the typical job interview answer) hard working and passionate.
What is your astrological sign?
What is your favourite colour?
I’m really into greys and whites right now, but am often told by my partner that I wear too many patterns at a time. I don’t think I have a favourite colour.
What does your ideal weekend look like?
Surrounded by love, whatever that means. Self love – Netflix & PJs, friend love – going out for a drink or having people over, family love – laughing about nothing with my partner, brother and parents.
Or…home cuddling my pup.
What is your role at work?
I lead Canadian business development for a non-profit.
What is your favourite thing about the work you do?
Every day is a different challenge, experience and opportunity. And every minute creates an impact that I can see in real time.
What is the least favourite thing about the work you do?
The same bullshit everyone deals with.
When you’re working on a team project, what type of role do you typically play?
Strategy and or leading – no matter what support.
When you’re in a stressful situation, how do you deal with it?
Problem solve – vent to a necessary third party or get it done my self.
How do you de-stress?
Watch every Real Housewives franchise. Or, on a productive day, work out. Loving GoodLife’s Body Combat class.
What is your definition of success?
Strong execution, attention to detail and forward thinking.
How do you stay organized?
My inbox is my to do list and Bible. I email myself subject line emails all the time. “SUBJECT: Answer Megan’s questions” – real life example.
Coffee or tea?
Coffee, but I love tea. Can’t function without one coffee.
Sweet or savoury?
Both please! Not a salty person though.
Favourite podcast (if any)?
I listen to CBC radio on my commute to work/home if I’m driving. I really enjoy podcasts, but have no space on my phone! #charitylife
