I love turmeric for so many reasons. For starters, it’s an anti-inflammatory, a potent antioxidant and it has antibacterial properties. It’s definitely an impressive spice.
One of my favourite ways to incorporate turmeric into my life (next to drinking turmeric tea) is turmeric face masks. I started making them about a year and a half ago and I’m very happy with the benefits its provided my skin. I’ve found it to lighten dark spots, brighten my complexion and it makes my skin feel super soft. It has also helped prevent breakouts, both topically as a face mask and drinking it as a tea.
A week ago I posted a photo on Instagram about YLLO, a formulated turmeric face scrub packed with awesome skin healing ingredients, including turmeric (obviously), chickpea flour, coconut oil, cane sugar, sea salt, vitamin E oil and essential lemon oil. I was pretty excited when I stumbled across this product, as I found a company that was just as excited about the healing benefits of turmeric as I was.
I’ve tried YLLO a few times and really love the way it makes my skin feel. It dries nicely and when you wash it off (which I recommend doing in the shower – as it can be messy) it provides a nice scrub for exfoliation. It also smells so lovely! I love the price point for this product too. It’s $25 but provides about 20 treatments – pretty good! It’s also 100% natural, vegan, gluten-free and has zero chemicals.
It’s nice to have a premixed turmeric face mask on hand for when I’m not feeling like making my own. But when I do have all the ingredients at home and I have time, I love creating my DIY turmeric-yogurt-honey mask. It’s a super cooling, refreshing face mask that makes my skin feel soft, bright and clean – very similar to how YLLO leaves my skin feeling.
DIY Turmeric Face Mask
1/4 tsp honey
1/8 tsp turmeric
1 tsp plain greek yogurt
Mix all three ingredients together to form a thick cream. If it’s too runny, add more greek yogurt.
Apply to clean, dry skin and let sit for 10-15 minutes until dry. Wash off in the shower and cleanse your skin with a cleanser afterwards to remove any potential turmeric residue.
I haven’t had this stain my face, but I ensure I wash my face off really well afterwards.
Same goes with YLLO. It doesn’t stain your face but you have to make sure you cleanse your face afterwards, or you will surely sport a tinge of yellow.

On the left side of my face is my DIY mask and on the right is YLLO. Both great masks that both left my skin feeling soft, glowing, bright and refreshed.
